Astrology: does it work?
As the "father" of hermetic sciences, Hermes Trismegistus, said....
"As above, so below. As within, so without."
The above statement uses analogy (a relationship of similarity established between two or more distinct things) as a tool for understanding reality. For example, we use the expression "so-and-so is an owl" to refer to someone. Unless we know the chain of analogies, it is difficult to understand. However, in many ancient civilizations, the owl was considered a symbol of wisdom, as it sees in the dark and "unravels mysteries while men sleep". So, saying that someone is an owl is the same as admitting that he or she is a wise person, a philosopher.
In general terms, using analogy, the observation of a certain realm can be transposed to any other. The reference realm of astrology is the sky. There are no causal relationships (of cause and effect) between the celestial bodies (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, etc.) and what occurs in reality..
Astrology (from the Greek astron = stars, celestial bodies and logos = word, study) is therefore an instrument for measuring reality which, by analogy with what occurs in the sky, or "what is above" (the position and movement of celestial bodies), indicates the occurrence of something on the earthly plane, or "what is below", with relative precision, without however causing it. Just like a thermometer, which measures the temperature with relative accuracy, but does not cause it.
The word horoscope means "to look into the hour" (in Greek, hora = the hour and skopein = to look). A horoscope is therefore a photograph of the sky at a given moment, as seen from a given place on Earth. The probability of being most accurate about what has happened, is happening or will happen in your life will depend on the skill and knowledge of the interpreter, that is, the person who interprets the horoscope, based on knowledge of the analogies established by astrology. This interpreter is what we call an astrologer.
When calculating a horoscope for the day, time and place of your birth (the so-called Natal Chart), we are taking a picture of the sky at that moment which, following the reasoning explained above, portrays your "way" of functioning in life, that is, the characteristics of your personality and the influences on the various areas of your life, such as values, relationships, work, family, health, pleasures, etc. If we take a new "picture" of the sky for any future date after your birth, we will see, in general terms, what can be expected to happen to you at that moment. As we said when addressing the subject of radiesthesia, here too what we can expect is to know what is possible or perhaps most likely to happen, since human beings have free will which hinders all attempts to predict with clarity and certainty how events will unfold.
After all, does it work or not?
It certainly reveals who you are (inside and out), what you can expect as a development of your future potential and prepares you for the times to come, whether they are good or not as good as you would like them to be. It is therefore a powerful tool for self-knowledge. In this sense, we can say that yes: IT WORKS!
